Educating young people is a crucial part of our work

Creating Health Resilience

Building a Healthier Future

We believe that educating young people is a crucial part of our work, especially in preventing diseases, including cancer. The more young people engage with and explore science, the better they can understand the importance of well-being and healthy living. This benefits both themselves and those around them. Building a healthier future requires this understanding, fostering hope and a happier society.

Scientific Centre of Monaco

2022/2023 Coral Study Program

Students from the International schools of Monaco and Nice were invited by CSM to explore its largest coral collection in the world. Through a series of interviews with the researchers and scientists in the Marine Biology Department, the students gained a unique insight into the latest research on coral biodiversity. The students expressed their amazement at the variety of corals and reef ecosystems at CSM and found it remarkable that CSM reefs have developed naturally with minimal human intervention, a challenge for most aquarists.

In particular, the students commented on the Centre’s efforts to co-exist with different coral species and its research into coral calcification rates to mitigate the effects of global warming on reefs.

2023/2024 Introduction to Cell Biology

This programme consisted of three sessions, both theoretical and observational, during which the students fro ISM and ISN were introduced to cell biology, with particular reference to the comparison of normal and cancer cell cultures. We believe that this experience provided the students with a rare opportunity to discover the latest research into paediatric brain cancer in a professional scientific laboratory.

As the final part of the programme, the students each wrote a report and were filmed presenting their findings. This video will be shown on ‘TV Monaco’ to promote the work of CSM.

If you would like further information about the findings and reports from the students, please contact the charity.

2024/2025 Sustainability Program

In June 2024, our association organized an educational program for children. The first part of the program was a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Menton, where the museum’s director gave a lecture. He explained why the Menton region is so unique, how it was formed, the animals that live there, and the specifics of its biodiversity. He also discussed the importance of preserving this biodiversity.

The second part of the program took place at the Diving Association of Menton, where the president, Bernard Peyrano, presented videos and images about their work. He shared an exciting project to grow corals near Menton and explained how the children could participate by diving, helping to clean the ocean, and supporting coral growth.

Building on this success, we plan exciting activities for the next academic year, including practical diving and research projects in archaeology and marine science.
