Project for children exposed to war in Ukraine 2024
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, a significant number of children have been exposed to traumatic events. This exposure has had a significant impact on their mental health, leading to disorders such as anxiety, depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Research to assess and treat these disorders in children and adolescents is crucial.
This study aims to test the effectiveness of an art-mediated therapeutic group in improving the quality of life of these war-affected young people. Main objective: To test the effectiveness of an art-mediated therapeutic group on resilience mechanisms in paediatric populations. Hypotheses: Improvement in quality of life and psychological and somatic symptoms.
Leading the research project in two centres, Nice and Kyiv are: Professor Florence Askenazy, Head of the SUPEA University Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry CHU-Lenval Paediatric Hospitals of Nice and Dr Svetlana Uvarova, Founder and Rector of the International Institute of Depth Psychology, President of the Ukrainian Association of Psychoanalysis (Kiev). Both have extensive experience of psychoanalytic work and research in times of disaster and conflict. We are honoured to have their expertise and knowledge to lead this research project.
